It was today one year ago that my father and I walked into the civil affairs building in Guangzhou China and met Christopher for the first time. I was so excited but knew it was going to be a very upsetting time for him. I was relieved when he cried as he was handed to me. The other families looked at me with pity but I knew this was a great sign. No two year old should go willingly with a person they just met. I knew he was attached to his caregiver who he was crying for and calling mama. My heart broke for both of them. She had taken care of Chris so well for two years and was now handing him over to me. We were all crying. My poor boy was a mess. He was so sad that first night. I never posted pictures from that day because they were all really blurry but now I can see they are the perfect pictures of that day. Emotionally everything was crazy and in a blur.
OUR FIRST SIGHT OF HIM
I'M NOT LIKING THIS!

MY SAD BOY
The next day he was like a different boy. He was happy to be with me although he kept his distance from grandpa.
Fast forward through a wonderful and busy year and oh how he has changed. He is a happy boy who loves to play with his sister, go running errands with dad and hanging out with mom. He has grown 4 inches and gained almost 8 pounds. Wow one year in some ways it seems like he has always been here. We went out with grandpa and Uncle Rich to the science center today to celebrate one year together.
HAPPY GOTCHA DAY MY SWEET BOY!
Hopefully if Xuelian doesn't have too much homework we'll go out to dinner tonight and celebrate as a family.
